Humor Symposium

Opening hours / Beginning:

25 November 2022 - 26 November 2022

Venue:

Main building, Great Aula and AudiMax Geschwister-Scholl-Platz 1 80539 München

In November 2022, LMU Munich will host a very special event: On this date, the Central Council of German Humor will be founded in collaboration with the cabaret ensemble Lach- und Schießgesellschaft. On this auspicious occasion, academics and artists will join together to explore the question: What is humor?

Drawing on insights gleaned from various disciplines, including law, art history and – of course – literature, the speakers, each accompanied by an artist, will explore the fundamental tenets of humor as a phenomenon. One academic and one artist each will take it in turns to respond, together covering the broad and boundless space that is humor. The line-up debating aspects of humor will include cabaret artist Mathias Tretter, Professor Oliver Lepsius (Münster), Professor Jürgen Müller (Dresden), the two cartoonists Greser&Lenz, Jürgen Kaube (editor of the FAZ newspaper), Gerd Polt, Professor Jörg Schönert (Hamburg) and Bruno Jonas.
